Mark Stater is a lighting designer and artist from Jacksonville, Florida. Mark has worked with various theatre companies, colleges, and universities across the country. While working with the Idaho Shakespeare Festival as a member of the lighting department, he fell in love with Idaho. Before working with the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Mark worked as a professional architectural lighting designer in Atlanta. After moving from Atlanta, mark joined the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and worked as a lighting technician with touring Broadway productions. This work lead to a lighting supervisor position in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; facilitating concert productions for acts such as Lake Street Dive, Taj Mahl, The Zombies, the Gin Blossoms, and many more. Mark has also worked as a professor with the Florida School of the Arts teaching theatrical design and production.
Mark enjoys working with light as an artistic medium because light is visible yet invisible; controllable yet wild; thrilling yet peaceful. He’s fascinated with how light moves and flows through space, as well as how the careful placement of light can illuminate or cast things into shadow. His work centers on how light can be used to unite a space with its surrounding environment, creating layers of interest within that space.
